Prednisolone or Hydroxycholoroquine Options

Can anyone tell me whether any of these have made them feel nauseous?

Steroids (prednisolone is one) can affect your tummy and blood pressure
Give the gp a ring and have a check
Might be you need to take a stomach protector like omeprosole and have a bp check

Also you need to watch for infection signs

The hydroxycloquine is pretty mild in terms of DMARDS but the main issue people have on it is infection risk and eye trouble

Hi Lisa

I've been on both these drugs since 2007 and have kept pretty well considering how I was before I started them. I've reduced to 3.5 pred although I still hope to get lower. Every time I attempt to do this something happens and I don't want to rock the boat further. Regarding Hydro, I started on 400mg a day but I wasn't feeling too good after a time. I told my rheumy and he said to stop it and see how I got on. After 3 days I couldn't even lift a spoon to my mouth so I started back on them but only 200mg a day. I've now increased it to 300mg a day by taking one and a half tablets daily. I also take amytriptilyne for nerve pain plus paracetamol and stomach protectors (very important).

My theory with Hydro and it's only mine, is that the leaflet with the tablets says the dosage for children is according to weight. I'm under 5ft so I can't understand how the dose is the same for me as it is for a 6ft plus man.

Hi Lisa - meds have slightly different side effects for everyone, and as Jenni says you should have been prescribed a stomach protector like omeprazole. Worry and stress can also contribute towards negative side effects, so do try to rest as much as you can in these early stages and find out what's best for you to help you relax.

Do your boys like swimming? Perhaps their dad can take them to the pool for a serious splash about while you have a relax in the nice warm toddler pool (assuming that you have one near you!)
